Naked & Famous Denim X ONI
The latest collaboration from Naked & Famous Denim, now available at Three Monkeys in limited quantity! We were lucky enough to get our hands on a few pairs of these at the shop as this project is a Barneys exclusive in the US. There’s a lot of awesomely nerdy stuff that makes these jeans so special, but even if you’re not one of those crazy denim fanatics, this is a sick pair of jeans and all you need to know is that they’re made from a fabric that is super rare and unique that will fade incredibly.
On to the awesome nerdiness…
ONI DENIM is a brilliant cult denim brand from Okayama, Japan. ONI means “devil” or “demon” in Japanese, and their logo is a classic style Japanese demon mask. The brand is very small and is almost a pet project for the owner Mr. Oishi. He worked for Levi’s in Japan many years ago and is highly respected as a serious denim fanatic and expert in Japan. He’s a badass because he refuses to be interviewed even by cult magazines like Free & Easy or Lightning. He doesn’t give a shit about press, he just wants to make incredible jeans!
Naked & Famous Denim love his purist methods… of course… and were proud to team up with him to introduce a piece of this underground cult to the luxury market with a modern fit.
The fabric itself is a super slubby irregular denim with a lot of texture. The way it’s created is by setting the shuttle looms to a super low tension, which in turn makes the machine rattle and shake (called loom chatter) and gives the denim uneven weave and bumpy texture, giving the fabric a more hand woven kind of feel. The yarns used to make this denim are also very bumpy and uneven. Some parts will be fat, and other parts skinny. Because the yarns thickness is uneven, when dyed the different strands of the yarn will have differing amounts of indigo penetration. The result is a fabric that will be bumpy in texture and have a unique type of fading known as vertical falling.
Now tell us you don’t feel nerdier and simply must have a pair because of it.

- 14.5oz super slubby and irregular weave famous ONI selvedge denim.
- Unsanforized. Now this is important people… These jeans will shrink approx 1 size with wash. If you plan to wash, then buy them a bit loose. If you plan to never wash, then buy them snug.
- Copper rivets.
- Black enamel coated buttons.
- Hidden back pocket rivets.
- Deerskin leather patch with double-name branding.
- Union Special 43200G chain-stitched hems.
- All made in vintage American machinery in Okayama, Japan.
