MOVEMBER 2010…
Yes! Movember is back and this year the gang at Three Monkeys are extremely proud to be The Official Montreal Chairmen for this phenomenal and very important movement. We’ll be running the highlights from this year’s Three Monkeys Movember campaign for you right here, but in the meantime, you can check out our Movember 2009 Campaign to see what we got up to last year. So, for those of you wondering what Movember is all about…
WHAT WE’RE UP TO:
Three Monkeys has joined a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to prostate cancer. We’re doing this by growing Moustaches this Movember, the month formerly known as November. The growth of a new moustache sparks hundreds of conversations about the seemingly taboo topics of men’s health and prostate cancer. Our moustaches will become like hairy ribbons for men’s health, making us walking billboards for 30 days. Our commitment is to grow moustaches all November to help change the face of men’s health.
What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year. Facts like these have convinced us to get involved, it’s time we did something about this. The funds we raise during our Moustache journey go to Prostate Cancer Canada.
We ask that you join us in this growing club of modern gentlemen who believe in the virtues of fine moustachery, immaculate grooming and growing a moustache for Movember. We are looking for like-minded ladies and gentlemen to join us in this cause or to donate to our Mo-growing efforts, the more people we can get on board, the more lives we can impact.
HOW TO MAKE A DONATION:

All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Prostate Cancer Canada will use the money raised by Movember for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected, and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.

The Official Movember Montreal Kick Off Party!
Gentlemen! Start your Mo’s! Ladies, come show your support for the boys!
You are cordially invited to the official kick off party for Movember here in Montreal… Come on down to The Burgundy Lion Monday, Movember 1st at 7pm and meet your fellow Mo Bros & Sisters, size up the competition and have a couple drinks with us to kick things off.
There’s always a great quiz night going on upstairs at The Lion on Mondays and this one will feature Moustache and Men’s Health related trivia, helping us to get our facts straight to start raising some funds and awareness for this awesome (and fun) cause.
Great music, prizes to be won and all manner of good times and jackassery.

DAY 1 – $1005
It’s On! Time for our Mo Bros to shave down to nothing and get ready for the long Mo growing journey ahead. While some of us shaved at home, a few of us offered up our faces for a public shearing at the Movember Kick Off Party at The Burgundy Lion. A few lucky gentlemen got the pleasure of being shaved by the lovely Québécoise celebrity Marie-Pier Morin (Le Banquier, Occupation Double and 25Stanley) who came down to lend her support for the cause.
The Kick Off was a fantastic success and it was great for all the Montreal Mo Bros and Sisters to meet up and launch Movember together in fine style. A special thanks to Movember YUL for all their help in making this event extra awesome. Check out some of the photo albums from the party below!

DAY 3 – $2435
Our funds raised have more than doubled since the Kick Off Party! The team is now a whopping 61 members strong! We’ve created a monster!
To make things even better, we’ve got some amazing celebrity support starting to come in for our team! Mo Bro Mike Babins gets a thumbs up from KEN DRYDEN on his Mo Growing efforts for Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada! Member of Parliament, best selling author, Hall of Famer and possibly the best goalie in the history of the NHL… Yeah, we’re pretty stoked.
More rocking support as well from GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist RON “BUMBLEFOOT” THAL! Thanks for the support Mo, man!
The men are giving birth… to little baby moustaches! What will these little proto-staches grow up to be? A Handlebar or Pencil ‘stache? A Fu Manchu or Pancho Villa? What Mo will you grow?
DAY 5 – $3670
GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
According to legend, GWAR was created over 100 billion years ago by the Master of All Reality. An ultra-elite group of warriors gathered from the lowest dregs of filth, the group raped and pillaged their way across the universe and finally arrived on Earth. Once on Earth they killed the dinosaurs, created Stonehenge to use as a croquet court, and sunk Atlantis. Displeased by their actions, the Master banished Gwar to Antarctica, where they lay entombed in ice for millions of years, until a hole in the ozone layer (caused by excessive use of hair spray by poofy-haired 1980s rock stars) released them from their icy prison in 1985. Free to roam the Earth once more, GWAR returned to their goal of world domination–this time as a rock band.
Mo Bros Mike Babins and Mike Casali caught up with GWAR hoping to get their leader ODERUS URUNGUS to perform a token inaugural shave off and join us in Movember to help humanity… we don’t know what happened. There must have been some miscommunication, Oderus seems to have been under the impression we would help him SPREAD cancer to the humans when he signed up to help them dominate the planet! AHHHHHH!! The Mo Bros barely made it out with their lives… Filthy alien barbarian brute.
The Movember Platinum Club. An exclusive club for Mo Bros who raise over $1000. In less than a week, our Mo Bro Jean-Aymeri is already a member, setting the bar high for our team. Go Mo!

DAY 7 – $4522
DAY 7 and Team Three Monkeys is still killing it, averaging around $500 a day in fundraising since Day 1, an amazing pace! To make things even more exciting and to keep our team MOtivated, Mo Bro Dylan Adair hits us with an incredibly generous offer… read below to see the message he sent out to our team today. Thanks bro, too awesome.
Dear Mo Bros and Sisters,
I have secured a commitment from The Adair Family Foundation to donate $6,000 to our collective effort toward the Movember cause and to benefit Prostate Cancer Canada. Here’s where the fun starts…
For the first five team members to hit the Platinum Club mark of $1,000 raised (I see you Jean), I will match your $1,000 in the form of a donation to our team total. That means if five of us break the 1K mark, I will make a 5K donation to the team at the end of the month.
I will also make an individual donation of $1,000 to the team member that finishes Movember with the most money raised.

DAY 9 – $7189 – We Beat Last Year!!
Movember Team Three Monkeys, Captain’s Log, DAY 9: Well… I’ve had to go to my Mo Space page and change my motivation text. One of the things I listed was to beat how much Team Three Monkeys raised last year for Movember, we achieved that in 9 days! I’m totally blown away by how HUGE Movember is this year… and not only that but by how much Canadians have embraced the movement. Canada has been in the lead in terms of funds raised almost since day 1! Canada is currently holding its spot at number 1 with 7.2 Million raised, that’s over 1 million dollars ahead of the charity’s native home of Australia! Crazy eh!!?? You go you crazy moustached Canadians.
Almost as sweet… the bros’ Mos are coming in quite nicely! Help us keep up our crazy pace and donate kindly!

DAY 11 – $8872
Team Three Monkeys rolling at a steady pace! The funds go up daily and we’re keeping the dialogue on men’s health active… a special thank you goes out today to our Mo Bros locking down the airwaves on CJAD & CHOM, playing a big part in spreading awareness on both the Movember movement and the facts about prostate cancer.
Also of great interest today, and this one is very important for our Mo Sisters looking to get involved in Movember out there, November 18 has been declared “Have Sex With a Guy With a Moustache Day” ! Mo bros have been spreading the word on this one HARD. Go Mo!
DAY 13 – $11382
Well it took us all a couple of weeks, but there is no more denying it for most of our Mo Bros, these are definitely moustaches on our faces! We’re starting to see some nice Handlebars, Pencil and Pyramid ‘staches shaping up real nice! Team Three Monkeys is rocking the fundraising, keeping up a pace of over $500 per day, currently sitting pretty at over 11K.
DAY 15 – $12,685
Day 15, the Movember half way mark AND the day we DOUBLE what we raised last year! Not only that, but 5 of our team members have now made it into the prestigious MOVEMBER PLATINUM CLUB! It was only a week ago that Mo Bro Dylan Adair challenged our team to break the $1000 mark, offering to dollar match the first 5 of us to do so with another $1000… well mission accomplished buddy! We took care of that one pretty quick ;). There is still one prize up for grabs though, the final top fundraiser on our team will get an additional $1000 donated to them individually, so looks like the heat is still on for us! Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition to keep us all MOtivated…

To help us raise more funds here at Three Monkeys, we’ve introduced some great Movember/Moustache related goodies into the shop… all of the profits going directly to Movember for Prostate Cancer Canada.
First off… we pulled in some amazing, high quality digital prints of some Moustache inspired art from the Le Movember Show out in Vancouver. Really great stuff! We got 3 artists to send us some posters of their works, limited to only 5 of each piece. You can read a bit about each contributing artist below and check out some of what we have available at the shop, you’ll have to come see the other pieces in person. Posters sell for $30.
Next up… The Makia X Movember Mo T. An amazing collaboration between a new line from Helsinki we just started carrying at the shop and our favourite charity! All very official, nicely detailed with some Movember love, on a great fitting high quality T Shirt from Makia and with a slick graphic perfect to sport all Movember season and beyond, this lovely number sells for $25… all going to Movember. Get one while we got ‘em!
Last but certainly not least, the folks over at Fentimans were generous enough to send us over a bunch of cases of their fine botanically brewed beverages! Every Fentimans beverage is still made in the time-honoured tradition by brewing and fermenting herbs and milled roots over seven days. We’ll be serving up their Ginger Beer, Curiosity Cola, Victoria Lemonade, Shandy, Mandarin and Seville Orange Jigger and Dandelion Burdock to our customers for a small donation.
DAY 17 – $14,084

DAY 19 – $15,435
Movember is in full swing, moustaches in full effect and team Three Monkeys has broken the 15K barrier! Our Mo Bros & Sisters are working double time keeping the funds coming in as we approach the end of Movember…
Our 2 Movember parties on this day brought in a total of $750 for Prostate Cancer Canada! A little exhausting hosting 2 parties in the same night going from bar to bar, but well worth it. Huge thanks to Chuck FroGasmic, Team Canada DJ D.R.One & the gang at Salon Officiel, and as well to Gary Tremblay and The Moustache Men DJs for rocking Quartier Latin. DAY 21 – $17,778
Our team has a lot to be proud of! Over 17K & ranking #28 across Canada, the only teams ahead of us include major banks & investment groups! Not bad for a bunch of monkeys. In our dust are monsters like BMO Nesbitt Burns and other BMO branches, Kraft Foods, TD Bank and Telus! We’re not looking to brag or anything, but we are most certainly issuing a challenge to these giants to step it up and catch up to our band of monkeys!
DAY 23 – $19,798
Team Three Monkeys is so close to 20K we can taste it!!! Tonight’s a pretty big one as we get ready for Montreal’s 1st Movember Tender-Off!
Notre-Dame street takes on Montreal!
Owner’s and staff of L’Orignal, Burgundy Lion and other Notre-Dame St. establishments are throwing down the gauntlet in a bartender challenge against representatives from other bars and restaurants around Montreal to raise money for Movember. The team that raises the most tips in it’s allotted time has the honour of donating the entire nights haul to Movember in it’s team’s name. This one is sure to raise a hefty sum for Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada! Expect to see a lot of moustaches out on the town…
UPDATE: The Burgundy Lion won and raised an epic $2400 in just one night for Movember, they’ll be donating it under their team’s banner! Well done.
More celebrity support for our team’s final push in week 4! Stanley Cup Champion, CJAD broadcaster and he makes a heck of a sausage sub! SERGIO MO-MESSO supports Movember and our efforts in the fight against prostate cancer!
DAY 25 – $28,666
THIS IS THE DAY WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! Our dollar matching funds come in from Mo Bro Dylan Adair and it sends us soaring to just under the 30K mark!!! We are currently placing #1 in the Movember Digital Challenge and ranking as the #15 fundraising team ACROSS CANADA… we couldn’t be prouder.
As if that wasn’t cool enough…
They call him The Metal God! Not only does JUDAS PRIEST frontman ROB HALFORD support Movember, but he helps Mo Bro Mike Metal come up with a new gang sign for all Mo Bros!

DAY 27 – $30,133
Last night’s Movember Gala was a huuuuuge success!! Tons of Mo Bros and Sisters came out to support and we raised over 2K at the door! Justin Trudeau acted as a judge in his fantastic d’Artagnan costume and gave a fine speech. Movember Co-Founder Adam Garone led the award ceremony along with our own Mo Bro Mike Babins while the Moustache Men DJs rocked the party all night. This one took a while to recover from but well worth it!
To make this day even better, Team Three Monkeys has reached its final goal of breaking 30K in funds raised for Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada! We never dreamed we’d get this far and we couldn’t be prouder. A MASSIVE thank you and congrats to everyone that made it possible. We really made a difference this year.

THE END – $36,785
MOVEMBER IS A WRAP FOLKS! Team Three Monkeys has proudly ranked #1 in Canada in the Global Digital Challenge and #13 overall Canada Wide beating out massive corporations with an amazing $36,785 raised for Prostate Cancer Canada. Movember Champions!
Canada has raised over 20 MILLION DOLLARS (more than double last year!!) for the cause placing them ahead of the whole world as the top Movember fundraisers, with a smaller population and fewer registrants, an incredible achievement.
Drum roll please…
Globally, Mo Bros and Sistas came together this year to raise a whopping 60 MILLION DOLLARS in the fight against prostate cancer!!! Phenomenal really. HUGE congratulations go out to our team, country and Mo family around the world. Endless thanks to everyone who took part, helped out and donated. Bravo team, we represented Montreal well. Until next year, where I guess we’ll be defending our title!

Your $6000 in dollar matching not only made things more exciting for our whole team and kept us all hustling extra hard for donations to earn top placement, it was an incredibly generous gesture that really made THE difference in our Team’s final contribution to the fight against prostate cancer.
Great job you guys… and to the entire Three Monkeys Movember Team. Thank you ALL for your hard work and dedication, we rocked it!
