As an independent boutique we pride ourselves on connecting with our clients in a way that's a little more intimate than the average big store experience.
Here's an opportunity for you guys to get to know our amazing staff before you meet them in-store (or maybe you've already met them).
Our third installment of Meet Our Staff features our male #fashionista, Patrick. A man who knows his fashion history and an inane amount about raw denim.
All clothes worn in the shoot are available in-store at IIIMNKYS, and are styled by Patrick himself.
Brands featured in this editorial: Naked & Famous, Zanerobe, RVLT, Woolrich
Meet Our Staff - Patrick
So what’s your name and what do you do?
I am Patrick, I work at IIIMNKYS and I'm a fashion student at LaSalle college...and I like drapey stuff.
Patrick, you look extremely tired today my man.
It's been a hectic week of Christmas shopping and...other things.
What did you get up to last night?
I think that's best left unsaid (laughs).
How do you approach styling a customer? Do you know what they'd be into as soon as they come in?
It's a pretty organic process. When I see the person come in, I really analyze them by looking at their jeans - is it a skinny fit or is it looser, and it's just natural for me to be able to find something they'll enjoy.
How would you describe your style?
Day-to-day it's pretty much black-on-black-on-black, I try to wear skinny jeans, casual, minimalistic and monochromatic items. There's a lot of layering and oversized knits. I think this type of style fits into any context. Layering allows you to add or take things off as necessary.
I'm usually carrying a tote, definitely not a backpack or anything.
As a fashion student who would you say is your favourite designer and why?
Raf Simons, without question. His designs are timeless and he's always ahead of the curve. His 2003 collection was incredibly avant-garde. His collaboration with Sterling Ruby this year was amazing, so he's managed to remain relevant after all these years.
Kids are becoming more conscious about what they're wearing. They'll see guys like Travi$ Scott and A$AP Rocky wearing Margiela, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Jil Sander and be influenced by it. I think we're part of the new generation who wants to stand out and have their clothes say something about their personalities.
What's the most you've ever spent on a single article of clothing?
What did you buy?
A Maison Martin Margiela topcoat. It's a piece that I'll have forever. It was a pretty instantaneous decision, I didn't really have to think about it too much and I only regretted it a bit at first.
I know that it's not made in China, that no slave labour went into the making of it and it's something that will be on me for as long as I can imagine.
Quality over quantity
You did the window display in the store, right?
Yea. I didn't really sketch anything, I just figured it was Christmas time, so I'd go with an outdoors-y, organic feel kind of thing while incorporating 3 actual monkeys. They trusted me to do the design and so far the response has been excellent, especially from older ladies and children.
What's your favourite thing about working at IIIMNKYS?
The boutique carries a lot of local brands and I really appreciate the fact that we support local talent. I like meeting new people, you never know who's going to step into the store.
I like building new relationships, maybe opening the door to possible collaborations, you always have to be open.
Anything you would like to throw out there as a closing remark for the readers and audience?
TYBG...Thank you based god! (N.B. He really did say this)
